What it does well

Rocket Money groups financial activity and recurring charges in one place. Its free plan includes subscription tracking, bill tracking, spending summaries and budgeting tools, according to the provider's help center.

For someone who wonders where their paycheck disappeared, reviewing recurring charges may reveal forgotten services or patterns worth adjusting.

What is really free?

Rocket Money describes a free tier with subscription and upcoming-bill tracking, transaction categorization and up to two custom budget categories. More advanced budgeting tools, additional custom categories, automatic cancellation help, and other services are Premium features.

Optional bill-negotiation service fees can be substantial: Rocket Money says a successful negotiation costs 35%–60% of the first year's savings, depending on the percentage selected. Always review the current offer before consenting. Source: Rocket Money pricing FAQ ↗

What we're cautious about

  • Financial data access: The service connects to financial accounts to see transactions. Assess the privacy tradeoff before linking them.
  • Upsells: Don't assume a feature shown in an advertisement is included in the free tier.
  • Fees on optional services: A service designed to save money can still cost more than you expect.

The provider says its bank connection uses Plaid, and that Rocket Money does not store bank login credentials. You should still read the data-access and privacy terms. Source: security explanation ↗

Our verdict

Try the free tracking features if recurring charges and spending visibility are your problem. If your goal is to plan every paycheck before it arrives, Goodbudget's envelope method may be the cleaner start.
